A highly successful fifth Kearsney Easter Rugby Festival came to an exciting conclusion on Monday, with Mr Price sponsored school Affies finishing as the only unbeaten school at the festival.
Affies (Afrikaans Boys High School) from Pretoria recorded wins over EG Jansen, Paarl Gym and Kearsney, while Glenwood, Grey College, Paarl Gym, hosts Kearsney and Paul Roos each won two of their three fixtures.
Westville Boys High, Dale College, EG Jansen, Affies, Queen’s College and Grey College Bloem were the six Mr Price sponsored schools that joined other top schools at the 2012 festival.
At the end of the three days of top-quality action, Glenwood captain Siyabonga Tom (who is also a Mr Price Sport hero in training), Westville Boys’ High’s prop forward Nqoba Mxoli and Paarl Gymnasium winger Wion Robertse were each awarded a contract with the Sharks Academy and tuition bursary with Varsity College.
Selectors from the Sharks Academy, who kept a close eye on proceedings, were impressed with the high standard of rugby displayed in front of the weekend’s estimated 13 500 spectators.
The highly-rated Kearsney festival once again highlighted the high standard of schoolboy rugby, with a number of thrilling matches taking place and several players producing standout performances.
