Mr Price team surfer Nikita Robb celebrated Women’s Day in style when she recently emerged victorious in the Women’s Day Surf Challenge in Muizenberg.
Held in benign winter conditions, and light three foot offshore winds, the Cape edition of this unique celebration of women’s surfing went off without a hitch.
The women's final featured two current South African champions in Nikita Robb and Tasha Mentasti, the defending event champion Chantelle Rautenbach and another top South African surfer, Tarryn Chudleigh.
In a fitting climax to a highly successful Women’s Day event current SA Champion, Robb, beat the recently crowned SA Masters champion Tasha Mentasti to take the title, with Tarryn Chudleigh coming third and last year’s champion Chantelle Rautenbach finishing fourth.
Robb said she had really enjoyed the experience of surfing a contest at Muizenberg once again.
“The contest was a lot of fun. It was strange to surf a contest at Muizenberg, I haven’t surfed a competition there since I was about 13-years-old. It’s a hard place to surf a contest because of the long paddle outs and difficult waves to catch, but I just worked on being consistent and catching two good waves.
“I felt like everyone was out to knock me of my pedestal. In those waves it’s anybodies game, but I worked hard and surfed even harder. I just focused on doing my best and ended coming out on top. I was happy with the result.”
Robb added that she hoped to keep on developing her surfing in different conditions going forward.
“My plans are to focus on the tour in SA and keep the titles coming my way. I’ve been training hard and learning to ride difficult waves in different ways. I’m trying to push my surfing and test it in different elements.”
