Bonitas City2City Marathon

This year’s Bonitas City2City Marathon takes place on the 30th of September. Fast becoming one of Gauteng’s premier road running races the event attracts thousands of passionate local and international runners who are guaranteed a wonderful atmosphere and great sense of camaraderie that truly pulls the two cities together.

The first city to city 50km ultra-marathon kicked off back in 1903 with only 30 runners. The race has now been held a total of 38 times, with various starting and finishing points. Originally called the JSE Marathon (the JSE sponsored it in 1903 and 1978-87), the race has been known as the City2City since 1988. Since 1978 the race has had several sponsors including the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, the Maize Board, The Star/Pretoria News, Hollard Insurance Company, and Nail/Sowetan/Gauteng Provincial Government.

Seasoned marathon sponsor Bonitas Medical Fund became title sponsor of the event in 2011, and is proud to continue its association in 2012. Bonitas is one of the main sponsors of the Comrades Marathon, and also sponsors Absa PSL team, Free State Stars FC, Bonitas Athletics Club and professional road cycling outfit, Team Bonitas.

Under the new management of Trophy Sport Management, the Bonitas City2City Marathon is one of the highlights of the road running calendar. Ex-Comrades star Nick Bester will continue as race director in 2012.

Dubbed three races in one, runners of all levels of experience can look forward to participating in the excitement and drama of the 50km ultra-marathon, the 21.1km half marathon for serious runners or the 10km family fun road race.

The event is limited to 3000 entries per race category. Entries received before 14 September 2012 for all distances will receive a commemorative race T-shirt and goody bag. Entry forms can be completed on line at www.mrpriceheroes.co.za under the ‘Events’ tab. Go to www.city2citymarathon.co.za for more information.
